[Review] The Girl Who Leapt Through Time Episode 1 - 5 (End)
To the you who don't know summer; To the you who don't know our love.
Time rewinding can be agonising when it comes to separations and erase of memories. This one summer of love shared with families, lovers and friends seals up in reminiscence as Mihane leapt through time to restore things back to their original places.
Honestly I did not anticipate any deus ex machina to be played out, and honestly I SAW this coming, but why do I still find it hard to accept? Not implying that the ending is bad (in fact it is very gratifying and is probably the best way to end the whole time-leaping saga), but I'm still ambivalent about the turnout of events.
These first loves might seem ephemeral, but deep down we know that they have effected an everlasting impact on our characters, who brought the little pieces of affection over to their future which crafted their dreams. Mihane found her calling to be a professional photographer, and her dream captures moments that later inspires Sho-hei in the 22nd century. This intertwine of causes and effects is simply amazing and beautiful.
In addition, NEWS' heartwrenching ballad 'Koi wo Shiranai Kimi e (To You Who Don't Know Love)' is a perfect fit to the bittersweet atmosphere of farewell, which despite our reluctance, is intensified with the melancholic lyrics. The summer that we've spent together, the love that we've once fallen into, we could never return to that same summer again.
