[Review] Scholar Who Walks The Night Episode 20 (End)

The finale saves everything, or specifically, the cast saves it from submerging into a whole pile of crap. I cried, for heaven's sake, and we're just going to owe these to the impressive acting of Lee Junki and Lee Su Hyuk. The entire plot would be more outrageously dumb if not for the duo.

Gwi goes down with his living quarters, not because of the very unsophisticated bombing plan but rather, his unspoken desire to end his miserable monstrous life. At least it is comforting to know that he has his best bud (don't argue, I believe he loves Sung-yeol very much) to accompany him at his dying moment, because that's fending off a little of his abhorred existence as a living corpse (erm well, that's not exactly untrue but you know, in the metaphorical sense). Dying alone can be very sad.

Having said that, the drama did make him die alone after all, because what?! Kim Sung-yeol's not dead?! I appreciate that the show takes fanservice into consideration and avoids sacrificing our hero, but this is definitely NOT. MAKING. ANY. SENSE. As much as I hope for a happy reunion, we can't erase the fact that Sung-yeol should have already lived out his life and not exist in this world. Arranging him back to reunite with Yang-sun is very much telling us he's continuing with this nature-defying life, worse still, without any mission at hand this time round.

Expectation wise, this drama puts you through many ups and downs littered with hope and shit, times when you thought you're seeing some light to the end of the tunnel, here comes another stretching you to eternal darkness. Nevertheless, this journey is somewhat consoling with the companion of Lee Junki by your side, coupled with a string of awsome ost songs along the way. For that, we shall overlook everything and put a closure to this preposterous fusion sageuk drama now, finally. Phews.
