Reply 1997, my 90s youth. Until the last episode, the show is suspending us with the title "The reason why first love won't succeed". I'm almost freaked out thinking Yoonjae is fated to break up with Shiwon. Phew, nah that's just a red herring.
Post drama sadness again! I can't believe how much I have fallen in love with the characters in merely a few weeks time, especially the chemistry held among the 6 friends and also the yoon brothers. Not forgetting Yoonjae and Shiwon, they have risen to become my favourite pairing of the year, trailing right behind my all time favourite SamdongxHyemi couple (kim soo hyun and Suzy from 2010 Dream High). Seo In Guk (playing Yoonjae) has beautifully portrayed a Korean version of Li Da Ren, melting all hearts with his dedication and love for Shiwon and only Shiwon. That aside, the struggle between choosing family or love has made the drama a more realistic one, meanwhile reminding us how important both are to us. Gone are the immature declarations of breaking blood ties just for a girl, but rather the numerous efforts to balance off the conflict, finally protecting those you care from being hurt. Be it JoonHee, Hyung TaeWoong, or Yoonjae, it is so heartwarming to see that beside romantic love, family love and friendship love persist indefinitely for sacrifices to be made.
And perhaps in this world, only Shiwon is capable of letting Yoonjae lose his sanity. Iceman prosecutor/judge? 장난이죠 , as we watched endless scenes of Shiwon agitating smarty calm Yoonjae to switch from Seoul back to busan accent, and always at the verge of pulling his own hair out in frustration (love their headbutt fight) and displaying his true self. The simple acts like sharing drinks, complementing each other's bad habits, or even chin tickling+face palm swipe combination, make one envious of the intimate relationship. It can be scary to think that there's this someone who knows you inside out, but at times, probably most of us would love to have one Yoonjae/Shiwon by our side, isn't it?
